Clarinda

Design & Renovation

Clarinda Ave is one of our favorite remodel and interior design projects. This beautifully built older home had great bones but very little had been done to it since the 50's. So the goal for the project was to update the home to make it more current in style as well as function. Our client also loves color so she wanted to add more color into the finishes as well as her furnishings. We love helping clients pick out finishes and fixtures for their remodels and on this one we got to take it a step further and complete the interior design as well! Using a designer to help with both the remodel/ new construction and interior design creates a cohesive and consistent look within your new home.

Living Room

The homeowner had been living in a newer home with taller ceilings and an open floor plan, so she really wanted to create that in her new residence. By relocating the kitchen, we were able to create the open flow she was looking for between the kitchen, dining, and living areas. Fortunately the structure of the roofline also allowed us to vault the ceiling in the living room as well as the master bedroom to get the ceiling height she was used to.

We decided to keep the finishes light and neutral by painting the walls Benjamin Moore French Canvas and the cabinets and woodwork Benjamin Moore White Dove. In the living room we added color with custom upholstery, drapery, and pillows as well as these awesome green and blue ceramic lamps from Visual Comfort.

Entry

In the entry, we added natural light by cutting beveled glass panels into the original wood front door. This is a trick we like to do whenever we can as it allows the home to keep an original detail but in an updated way. We decided to add color by using this Phillip Jeffries printed grasscloth wall covering and abstract art.

Kitchen

The kitchen got Visual Comfort pendants and bright window treatments made with Quadrille fabric. We also decided to add color to the kitchen by selecting the blue green ceramic backsplash from Walker Zanger. One of our favorite details in this kitchen is the custom stainless hood with chrome banding over the cooktop.

Office and Powder Bath

The office was carved out of the space where the original kitchen was and includes double pocket doors and a closet so that it could be closed off and used as a 4th bedroom in the future. We also created a powder bath out of a coat closet near the entry to allow for a bathroom closer to the living area. We tiled the vanity wall with antique mirror to make the room feel larger and added the wall paper by Angie Hranowsky from Studio Four NYC for fun.

Master Bedroom and Bathroom

The master suite got an overhaul with a vaulted ceiling, sliding glass doors to the patio, an enlarged bathroom including a tub and separate shower as well as a walk-in closet that doubles as the laundry space with the washer and dryer hidden behind custom cabinetry painted in Benjamin Moore Wedgewood Blue.

Guest Bathroom

The tile in the guest bath was laid out to mimic a traditional ticking stripe textile pattern and double glass doors were selected so that the tile wouldn't be hidden behind a shower curtain. The bright abstract art gives it the pop of color it needed to finish off the space.
